SPORTING CLAYS TOURNAMENT

RULES

EVENT FORMAT:

1. Tournament play consists of 100 targets
2. Each station will consist of 3 or 4 pair of targets either report pair or true pair
3. The first person on each team will be allowed to view one pair of targets from the shooting box. All other team members must watch from the station. Only the team member in the shooting box may track the targets with an unloaded gun.
4. Only two (2) shells may be loaded at a time.
5. Only two (2) shots may be fired per pair.
6. Each person will have their own score card to give to the score keeper at each station. It is your responsibility to maintain and transport your score card throughout the course.
7. A “hit”, “kill” or “X” is any piece of the target broken as a result of shot fired.
8. Each person must confirm their score before leaving the station.
9. The scorer will call out hit or miss for each pair before recording an “X” for hit or “O” for miss. Any disagreement must be stated to the scorer before the shooter calls for the next pair. The score keeper may seek input from team members and spectators before making a revised decision. The score keepers decision is final.
10. The shooter may shoot a second shot at the first missed target recognizing the second target will be scored as a miss.
11. Each shooter on the team will complete all the pairs for that station before the next shooter takes a turn in the shooters box.
12. Team members shall rotate responsibilities between stations serving as shooter, score keeper (if one is not present), trapper, and spotter.
13. Malfunctions of trap equipment resulting in no presentation of targets, broken targets leaving the machine, or targets in an obviously different trajectory will be called as “NO BIRD” and the shooter will be presented a new pair of targets.
14. Three (3) malfunctions of shooter’s equipment will be allowed for the duration of the tournament. Each occurrence will be marked on the bottom of the score card and malfunctions exceeding 3 will be counted as a “MISS”. Shooters will be presented with a new pair of targets for the initial 3 malfunctions. (Shooter malfunctions include leaving the safety on, forgetting to load shells, loading empty shells, shell misfires, not completely resetting or releasing the trigger, failure to cock the firing mechanism, mechanical failure, or not seeing the target).
15. Teams will progress to the next station as a group once the current station is completed.
16. Tournament play will begin as a shotgun start. No shells may be loaded until the signal is given to begin play.
17. Upon completion of the course, present your score card to the scoring official at the score board.

SAFETY:

1. All shooters must sign in at the pro shop and receive team assignments, starting positions, and score cards.
2. All guns must be kept UNLOADED and ACTIONS OPEN at all times.
3. Only the shooter in the shooters box may load two shells when ready to call for targets.
4. Guns must be unloaded and actions open before leaving the station.
5. Shot size must be between #71/2 and #9
6. Muzzles must be maintained in a vertical position (up or down) except for the shooter in the shooter’s box.
7. Actions on guns that break open may be unloaded and closed so long as they are stored in a gun rack in a vertical position.
8. Ear and Eye protection is required for all persons at all times on the course, including shooters, spectators, score keepers, and officials.
9. No one is allowed within 6 feet of the shooters box when occupied by a shooter.
10. No horseplay and No alcoholic beverages before or during shooting.
11. Each shooter should have their own shotgun. Sharing of shotguns is only allowed within the team. (guns are available for rent at the pro shop)
12. Each shooter is responsible to supply and carry their own ammunition. (You will need a minimum of 100 rounds. It is recommended to have 150 rounds in the event of a shoot-off or trap malfunction). Ammunition is available for purchase at the pro shop.

SHOOT-OFF:

1. If there is a tie between 1st, 2nd, or 3rd individual or team scores, a shoot-off at the five stand will determine the positions.
2. Each individual or rotational team member will shoot from the same station and same pair presentation for the round. The best score wins the position or if the tie is unsettled, the shooters will move to the next position and pair presentation as determined by the event officials. Teams will rotate members for each pair.
3. This process will repeat until a winner is declared.
4. Each shooter is responsible to supply ammunition as required for the shoot-off.

AWARDS:

Gift certificates will be awarded for 1st and 2nd place individual best scores.
1st - 60% 2nd - 40%
